About Chiropractic & Soft Tissues Injuries

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a health care profession that deals with the musculoskeletal system and its effects on the nervous system.  It is a manual therapy that is used to manipulate dysfunctional areas of the body and restore them to their properly functioning state.  This, thereby, alleviates pain and muscle tightness.

Chiropractic physicians use orthopedic testing, neurological assessments, and diagnostic testing to diagnose and treat patients. Chiropractic doctors are one of the four recognized physicians by the Florida Department of Health, including medical doctors, osteopathic doctors, and dentists.

Soft Tissue Injuries

Soft tissue includes the muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia and nerves of the body. These tissues can be injured by a multitude of processes including pulls, tears, strains, sprains, micro-trauma, and lack of oxygen. When a soft tissue injury occurs, the body will repair the damage by lying down dense and irregular scar tissue. This fibrotic mess will bind to its surroundings causing a decrease in function. When this binding occurs, the tissue will become weak, tight, inflamed, and lose its proper function.

Common soft tissue injuries include carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, rotator cuff tendonitis, ankle sprains, shin splints, IT band syndrome, plantar fasciitis, knee pain, fibromyalgia, trigger finger, sciatica, muscle strains, and many others. Symptoms of soft tissue injuries include pain, tingling, numbness, burning, weakness, tightness, and headaches.

Dr. Land is certified in two of the most effective soft tissue modalities currently utilized in the professional and collegiate sports level to treat these injuries, Active Release Technique and Graston Technique.  Check out those sections of the website for more detailed information.
